For years, I resisted withdrawing my library’s very worn picture books written and illustrated by Maine artist Dahlov Ipcar because they are so exquisite. Three different publishers are now reissuing these long out-of-print books: Nobrow Press in England, and Downeast Books and Islandport Press, both here in Maine. Because of this I finally did withdraw a number of Ipcar’s books–only to bring them home to mine them for beads! As I said, the books were in terrible shape, but many of the pages filled with those wonderful, beautifully colorful illustrations, were perfect for beads, and the results are, I think, very lovely.
